True Courage

The following quotation is adapted from Chögyam Trungpa (1939 –1987) who was a Buddhist meditation master, scholar, teacher, poet, and artist. He is widely recognized, both by Tibetan Buddhists and by other spiritual practitioners and scholars, as a preeminent teacher of Tibetan Buddhism. He was a major figure in the dissemination of Tibetan Buddhism to the West.

True courage is the product of tenderness.
It arises when we let the world touch our heart,
Our heart that is so beautiful and so bare.
True courage arises when we open ourselves up,
With no resistance or timidity,
And truly face the world.
True courage arises when we share our heart with others.
