Joie de Vivre

My friend Leonor Fini, the artist and designer whose cat Muzonka is pictured in the blog entry for July 20, often spent the late summer and early fall in the ruins of a monastery on the island of Corsica. In the 1970s she designed this label for a Corsican vintner. Leonor’s depiction of Bacchus, the mythological god of wine and ecstasy, gives him such joie de vivre! I love the sketchy wreath of grape vines surrounding his head. And that mouth! Obviously anticipating more delicious food and drink.
