Last year John Burgess, staff photographer for the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, took this picture of Cesar Lopez comforting Ivan Aguilera on their first day of kindergarten at Geyserville Elementary School. The compassion being expressed by Cesar is a remarkable thing to behold.I searched for some wise words on compassion and discovered the following quote by Frederick Buechner, a Presbyterian minister and American author.
Compassion is...the capacity for feeling what it is like to live inside somebody else's skin. It is the knowledge that there can never really be any peace and joy for me until there is peace and joy finally for you too.
