Since 1937 the Taddei Workshop in Florence has been producing extraordinary leather articles. Simone Taddei makes the items today. He uses the same tools, the same forms and the same workbench that have been used from the beginning. His father Giampaolo and his grandfather Otello preceded him.The shop is best known for its handcrafted leather boxes. More than twenty years ago my friend John Donovan gave me a leather box from Taddei (above). It has a hinged lid. The business card from the shop is still inside: Taddei Bottega Artigiana. The box was probably made by Simone’s father Giampaolo.
The current promotional material declares, “These beautifully rendered objects give pleasure to the eye and joy to the touch.” Sì! Sono molto bei! (Yes! They are very beautiful!)
